1. Visit the Koordinates Data Service Website (https://koordinates.com/explore/)
2. To download data, you need to register with your email address. Registration is free. Register using the “Register” link in the top right-hand corner, above the map.
3. In the left-hand "Most Popular" panel you should see the "NZ Contours (Topo, 1:50k)" option. Click the green [Map+] button.
4. In the right-hand panel, pan and zoom to your area of interest on the map.
5. There are options for the Basemap to be "Streets", "Terrain" or "Satellite" however these options do not affect the elevation data via Import Contours. Note that the resulting files will not contain any additional information apart from the contours and elevation labels.
6. Select the specific map area using the “Crop” tool:-
• Click the “Crop” button at the top right of the right-hand panel.
• Drag a box on the map to specify an area for data download.
7. Click the green [Export] button, next to the crop button (see step 6).
In the left-hand panel select the appropriate "Coordinate Reference System" option and then the file format "Vector". Note that is you are using IRRICAD Standalone you cannot import elevations directly from a DWG file. Therefore select Shapefile or KML as the best options.
It is highly recommended that the Coordinate Reference System be set to WGS 84 / UTM Zone 59S (EPSG: 32759) projection if in the South Island. Note that most of the North Island and eastern Marlborough is in the WGS 84 / UTM Zone 60S (EPSG: 32760) projection . If you have data to import from other sources, ensure that that data uses the same projection so that the dat sets will be in the same correct placement in the design.
8. Click the [Create Export] button on the bottom right and wait for Koordinates to create your dataset. If you have selected a large area this might take some time. There is a counter at the top left to display howmany of your downloads are now available for dowload.
9. Download you data. The data set comes as a zip file, in the case of the shapefile format it will contain a directory and shape file for each layer you selected. Save the zip file and extract it somewhere relevant – your Irricad “Designs” folder or Customer folder is a good choice.
10. Use Import Contours in Irricad to import the elevation data from the Shapefile or KML file. Note that this data is quite coarse, giving 20m contours. Once the data is imported, you can use Interpolate Elevations and Calculate Contours to add intermediate data if required.
