How to Make New Database Symbols for IRRICAD Link

Post by jovivier »

The important things to keep in mind when creating new database symbols for use in IRRICAD Link are:-
- open symbols needs to have a physical center
- new symbols should match the existing symbol sizes
- new symbols should be created with the center at 0,0.

1. Draw a 1 x 1 square with the center at 0,0. Note that the units do not matter.
2. Draw your symbol to fit within this square, where at least one dimension is one unit large. This is so all your symbol sizes will be the same as the default symbols.
3. If your symbol doesn't have anything in the center, i.e., is an open symbol, then place a ‘cross’ at the center so that IRRICAD can connect. Unfortunately you can’t simply place a ‘point’ as such. You will need to draw very small pieces of polyline that intersect:-

(small pieces of polyline if you don't want the 'cross' to be prominent).

4.Then select the symbol components and run the WBLOCK function to write to a DWG file. In the dialog select the “Object” or “Entities” option and the “Pick point” for the base point. Enter a file name and browse for the path. Click [OK].

5. Choose the base insertion point by clicking (normally the center or on a corner of the symbol depending on your requirements). This is the point you wish to snap to the pipe.
