HGL scale range changes

Each time when I use the Hydraulic Gradeline tool the first window to appear has (to my eyes) a nice presentation with an elevation scale which has only a small sliver of the ground elevation showing at the bottom and the maximum zone pressure is very near the top, thus maximum detail can be observed. But when I try to "copy", "print" or "save" the image, it reverts to a larger range of scale values, thus squeezing the data I want to view into a narrow band and useless range of elevation at top and bottom of the chart then takes up much of the table. I have tried using the "E" and "D" keys and have gotten into the table editing tool, but so far I have been unable to identify a method to prevent the scale from changing before I could take a copy of it. Any ideas? I would be happy to include a window image of both kinds if that will help you; if you would like that, just let me know how to include. Thanks,
