How to run IRRICAD Link inside AutoCAD Civil 3D

Post by jovivier »

When IRRICAD Link is installed it runs with default AutoCAD not Civil 3D, even if you ran Civil 3D before installing the IRRICAD Link program. To access the IRRICAD commands from within Civil 3D follow the steps below.

To have the option to run Civil 3D without the IRRICAD Profile:-
1. Copy the Civil 3D desk top icon and rename it for IRRICAD Link.
2. On the original Civil 3D icon right-click and select "Properties". Under the "Shortcut tab" add the profile switch for the default or required profile – this might be the same as the AutoCAD one or might be a different profile name – this can be checked via CONFIG on the Profiles tab inside Civil 3D. Enter the profile name after the /P switch as below in the properties on your Civil 3D icon:-

3. On the icon you have copied and renamed for IRRICAD right-click and select "Properties", Under the "Shortcut tab" add the profile switch to /P “Irricad”. (Just like the existing IRRICAD Link desktop icon).

To run IRRICAD Link inside Civil 3D:-
1. Run the IRRICAD Link Civil 3D from the new desk top icon created above.

Set the Configuration
First the Support File Search Path and Trusted Locations must be set to include the IRRICAD Link folder.

2. Open a New blank drawing and enter CONFIG into the command line and press <Enter>.

3. Go to the "Profiles" tab and select Irricad from the list. Click the [Set Current] button then click [Apply].

4. On the Files tab highlight “Support File Search Path” and then click the [Add] button and then the [Browse] button. Locate the folder that contains the ARX file, typically located in C:\Program Files\Irricad\Irricad Link xx.

5. Repeat step 2 for the “Trusted Locations” options, which will you find further down in the Files list. Click [OK]

Load the IRRICAD Link App
Now load the app:-

6. In the command line enter APPLOAD.

7. Browse for the Irricad64.arx in the installed IRRICAD Link folder, commonly located in C:\Program Files\Irricad\Irricad Link xx. Click the [Load] button.

8. Once the app has been loaded – it will tell you if it is successful/unsuccessful – click the "Add to History" option and close the dialog.

9. You should also receive a message to check if you always want to load this file – click Yes or Always Load.

10. Close and reopen Civil 3D from the new IRRICAD Link icon.

Load the CUI File
Now the partial IRRICAD CUI file can be loaded into the selected Work Space:-

11. Action the command CUI and in the top left panel click the down arrow on the field currently displaying "All Customization Files".

12. Click "Open" and browse for and select the IrricadAcadCUI.cuix file from the Support folder, commonly located in C:\Users\(Your logon name)\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D xxxx\enu\Support. Note that if IRRICAD is already installed with plain AutoCAD you will need to browse to C:\Users\(Your logon name)\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD XXX\RXX.X\enu\Support.

13. Click Apply on the bottom left and OK the dialog.

14. In the command line enter WSAUTOSAVE 1 to change the setting to always save your CUI/Workspace changes.

Set the Preferred Workspace
To set the Workspace to either the Irricad Standalone or Irricad Addon, which will provide the menu and toolbar structure as seen in IRRICAD Link for AutoCAD, you will need to set the IrricadMainAcad.cuix as the Main Customization file.

15. Enter CONFIG into the command line and press <Enter>.

16. On the "Files" tab open the "Customization Files" option.

17. Highlight the current 'Main Customization File' typically "C3D", and click the [Browse] button. Select the IrricadMainAcad.cuix file commonly located in C:\Users\(Your logon name)\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D xxxx\enu\Support. Note that if IRRICAD is already installed with plain AutoCAD you will need to browse to C:\Users\(Your logon name)\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD XXX\RXX.X\enu\Support. Click the [Open] button.

18. Click [Apply] and [OK] on the Options dialog to close it.

19. Select the preferred Irricad Standalone or Irricad Addon workspace to load your preferred menus and toolbars.
You can use the WSCURRENT command if you can't see the workspace option on the status bar.
