IRRICAD Standalone is based on a Visual CADD engine and therefore there may be some compatibility issues between DWG/DXF files and IRRICAD Standalone. Note that the newer the IRRICAD version the greater the compatibility will be.
The most common errors and the solutions are listed below.
1. File version.
IRRICAD Version 16 and 17 can import up to 2017 format DXF/DWG files. If the file is in a newer format the error message will be similar to "OpenDWG Error #3, Can't open file".
Solution: Resave the file in AutoCAD, BricsCAD or DraftSight to an older version.
See the IRRICAD Release Notes - "Increased Support for AutoCAD File Format" for your version if you are running an older version of IRRICAD.
2. Layout/Viewport Issue.
IRRICAD cannot import the layouts and therefore ignores them. However sometimes there is something strange about the layouts and IRRICAD can't ignore them and bring in the "Model". The error message will be similar to "OpenDWG Error #287, Viewport entity with no extended data - invalid"
Solution: Remove the Layouts in AutoCAD, BricsCAD or DraftSight (note that AutoCAD and DraftSight provide the best results in this case) and resave to the correct compatible version.
3. Proxy items in the File.
When a file has been created in a CAD program that contains an add-on, such as Civil 3D, Map 3D, etc, then there will be items that other CAD programs will not be able to read. In some cases this may mean that you simply don't see these items and they are not imported. In other cases you may receive a "translation" error.
Solution: In AutoCAD you can make these proxy items in to AutoCAD items by using the AECTOACAD command.
4. Unknown items in File.
If a file still cannot be imported successfully after trying 1-3 above then it could be caused by an item that IRRICAD doesn't recognise.
Solution: Resave the file in AutoCAD, BricsCAD or DraftSight to a very old format, for example 2000 or even R14.
Note that IRRICAD cannot bring in any X-Referenced files, each required file will need to be imported separately.
