Irricad Starts Slowly

Post by jabesmedeiros »

Dear friends. I have been using Irricad for almost 15 years. Rigth now I'm using the 18th version. I was using Irricad on an Intel i3 Toshiba Notebook with a 240GB SSD. Irricad used to take 5 to 6 seconds to start on that notebook. Now I,ve bought a HP Ryzen 7 with a 512 SSD and for my surprise Irricad is taking about 37 seconds to start. Other CAD programs runs normal. The previous notebook was 14". And the present one is 15". I've realized that Irricad had to reconfigure the PPP settings. But I'm not shure that this could be the cause. ¿Do you know what this problem could be? Thank you very much.

Hi Jabes,

I'd think it very unlikely that your base hardware would be the issue here. When Irricad starts up, it looks for your dongle to check for a valid license and decrypt the executable. We can think of two possible reasons for slowness:
  1. Irricad is struggling to find your dongle
  2. Your anti-virus software is interfering with (or at least, carefully examining) the decryption of an executable file
Number 1 is most likely if your dongle is on another machine. In that case you might try to ensure that your NSP_HOST environment variable points directly at the IP address of the machine hosting the dongle. Otherwise, Irricad will perform a network search of your whole subnet to find the dongle. If the dongle is on your machine, you can set the NSP_HOST variable to RNBO_STANDALONE to ensure that Irricad only looks for the dongle on your machine. See here for information about changing you NSP_HOST variable.

You can check for number 2 by temporarily disabling your AV software and seeing if that improves the start-up time. If it does, then you would need to figure out how to add an exception or rule to your AV system to stop it from scanning the Irricad executable. If this is the problem, it would be helpful if you could let us know what anti-virus software you are using.

I hope this helps,
Regards,

Dan

Thank you very much Dan. I'm really not sure why, but problem got solved without intervention. Indeed I was forgetting the issue and just remembered it cause I've come back to the forum for other reason. For shure it is not the AV because I was using Windows Defender and it is still the same, so probably Windows solved by itself the problem on adressing properly the dongle I believe. Now the difference is 12 seconds for the i3 and 8 s for the Ryzen 7. Thanks!!
