Default Layer Settings for IRRICAD Link

Post by jovivier »

IRRICAD layers are added to a design when a drawing is "irricad-ized". This means that layer settings are per design rather than a global setting.
However, additional default layers, with preset properties, can be added into the template (DWT file) and used in IRRICAD designs.

We have pre-made metric and US templates with the default IRRICAD layers added. These can be downloaded and used by saving in the Template folder:-
1. Download the zip file containing the updated templates from https://www.irricad.com/irricad/downloa ... layers.zip .

2. Save the zip file to the hard-drive and double-click on the file to open it. Copy the contents into the Template folder. This is commonly located in C:\Users\[your login name]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Template for AutoCAD or C:\Users\[your login name]\AppData\Local\Bricsys\BricsCAD\Vxxx64\en_US\Templates for BricsCAD, where xx is the version number.
Note that these new templates have the same name as the existing templates, to ensure that new designs will automatically load the new template by default. If you want to keep the original templates you can rename them prior to overwriting them. Note that you can set the required template via CONFIG in the "File" settings for Templates.

To set the layer properties or add additional default layers:-
1. Open the DWT file by changing the file type to DWT in the File|Open dialog. If the Template folder is not displayed browse for it.

2. Open the layer manager (LAYER) and set the required layer properties. You can also add new layers as required.

3. Save the DWT file and close it. We recommend that a copy of the newly edited DWT file is copied to a different location for safe-keeping. (Note that a copy of the original IRRICAD templates are located in the installed IRRICAD Link/Config folder).

4. To use, start a new design.

Note that it is very important that no IRRICAD functions or commands are actioned when editing the template DWT files. This will break the template for use in IRRICAD Link. Therefore, to change the layers for specific IRRICAD items (Irricad Options|Layers) add the required layer in the DWT file but do not action (Irricad Options). In an IRRICAD design, set the layers for the specific IRRICAD items and click the [Save As Defaults] button. Close IRRICAD for these settings to be saved in the registry for future sessions.
