GRAVITY SYSTEM

Does Irricad have the ability to simulate a gravity system to determine the pipe size(s) to use to deliver a given volume of water?

For example:

If the source of water has 4' of head or 1.8 psi and is 1320' away from the delivery point, how large will the pipe have to be to deliver 1200 gpm to the booster pump? Room to trench is limited so multiple pipelines may be required.

Is there a way to simulate multiple pipelines delivering to a single location?

Thank you,

M Black

Hi Matt,

Yes, IRRICAD can design a gravity supply system. In the older versions, you will have to input a small Design Head and Maximum Head.
Leaving these values at zero (0) means that IRRICAD will calculate the required pressure.
Note that this was changed in Version 15, where a zero (0) pressure means a starting pressure of zero.

You can have multiple pipes feeding to a location. Just ensure that the water supply only has one connection (tee off after the water supply not at the water supply) and the outlet has no more than 3 pipes connected. If there are more pipes then they will need to connect together before the outlet.
You can simulate multiple pipes as one pipe but only if you know the size that simulates the combined sizes. You will also need to work out the combined roughness factor (Hazen-Williams factor) for the simulated pipes.
