A drawing template is used to ensure that your preferred setup for each new design or drawing is in place each time, including the preferred layouts.
IRRICAD Link supplies two default drawing templates, one for metric and one for US units.
If you are editing these templates inside IRRICAD Link ensure that you do not action (most) IRRICAD command or open any IRRICAD menu. This will 'irricadise' the template and subsequently it won't be able to work with IRRICAD Link. It will ask you to close all IRRICAD designs before loading or unloading the application.
The only function you can use in IRRICAD Link is Create Legend. Therefore, it is safer to edit templates in pure BricsCAD or AutoCAD.
If you have 'irricadised' the edited template it can be resurrected by following the below sequence:-
1. Open the edited DWT file.
2. Save As a DXF file. (Saving to DXF will remove all connection to IRRICAD).
3. Open the DXF saved in step 2.
4. Now Save As the file as the required Drawing Template (.dwt) file.
Note that if you give the new DWT file in step 4 a different name you may still get the error message if the original DWT file name is set as the default template.
To change your default template in AutoCAD:-
1. Action CONFIG.
2. Go to the File tab.
3. Open the "Template Settings" option.
4. Open the "Default Template File name for QNEW".
5. Highlight the existing item and click the [Browse] button.
6. Select the required template and click Open.
To change your default template in BricsCAD:-
1. Action CONFIG or Settings|Settings.
2. Open the "Program options" option.
3. open the "Files" option.
4. Open the "Templates" option.
5. Highlight the "Template" item and click the [Browse] button on the right-handside of the existing path and file name.
6. Select the required template and click [Open].
If you have not edited the template ensure that an IRRICAD design dwg hasn't accidentally been set as the template for new designs, as per the steps above.
