Transferring Plot Template from AutoCadd to Irricad

Post by Samantha »

Hi ya'll,

A little background information: Our company is wanting to switch from doing SDI designs in AutoCadd to Irricad. They currently have a Plot Template with multiple tabs in AutoCadd.I've been trying to import their current Plot Template into Irricad and I haven't had success because I keep losing the tabs-the only thing that appears is what is in the AutoCadd model space. My question is,is there a way to do this or can anyone suggest an alternate way to keep the "tab" setup? Any help is much appreciated.Thank you, have a blessed day :)

Hi Samantha,

You can select and copy the template from the layout tab and paste it into the model space in Auotcad. In this way you can import the template into IRRICAD. However this does not make an IRRICAD template.

The best way to set up your template is to edit an existing IRRICAD one. Symbols can be placed and saved in the template, and linked images can be used. Working through the tutorials will be the quickest way to understand all the things involved (Help|Help Topics - Tutorials > Plot Templates > Edit an Existing Plot Template). The chapter on Creating a New Plot Template will give you some understanding of the Active Area and Fills, but I do think editing may be faster than creating a new one. The chapter found in Help|Help Topics - User Manual > Printing Plans and Reports > Using Plot Templates to Create Plot Layouts will give you a lot of practical information and Help|Help Topics - Tools and Command Reference > Plot Templates will give you the mechanical use of the tools required to make plot templates.

As the IRRICAD Plot templates use an Active Area (used in scaling) everything else must be placed inside this.
You could make a symbol (Tools|Create Symbol) of the imported Autocad template and later place this inside the Active area of the plot template.

Some tips to help with editing plot templates:
- turn off the fills in Settings|Drawing Items Display "Fills" while working in the template. (This just avoids the fills being selected when you are trying to select something else).
- do not embed images in to the plot template but only link to the image file.
- do not use the white on the far right-hand side of the colour palette for the fills as this is a white/black colour and will display as black on a white background. Instead use the white underneath the black on the left-hand side of the colour palette.

All the best,

Jo
