elevation data conversion

Post by mgoree »

Customer has supplied to me a .shp file with elevation data that was collected in meters. Is there I process whereby can convert the data to feet without calculating & changing every data point individually?

If you change your "Importing" units (Settings|Units) to metres before importation the data will be imported in the correct dimensions.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and got the following result:
changed unit to meters, then imported .shp file. Ran 3D (in report) and got what appears to be metric data.
changed units to ft, data changed to ft. However, the values (in ft) seem to be very close to the values that I had when I imported the .shp with changing to units. Is it possible that Irricad does this conversion automatically? If so, how does it know what unit of measure of origion data.

Hi Mike

If you set the importing unit to meters, but leave the distance and elevation unit as feet, things should come in as you want them to. Send us an email or give us a call if you have further questions.
