Slow screen refreshing

Post by jbaselga »

Hello to all
I´m working with Irricad Stand alone V 18.06. I have some speed processing problems.
For instance, when I start the program, designing speed is OK (more or less), but after a while of doing changes in block design, the graphic refreshing start to slow down in speed and after a few minutes of designing, It takes several seconds to make a simple change in a block.
The Computer Technician have checked the computer performance and says that everything is OK with the Pc.

Any idea

Hi,

This sounds like a memory or resource issue, where the graphics card, GPU, paging on to disk, or running out of cache could be the cause.

The following minimum hardware is recommended for IRRICAD:-
Computer: Intel i7 or equivalent processor, minimum 8GB Ram recommended, 512 Mb Video and 250+ GB Hard disk
Operating System: Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.

To help us assess further we would need details about your operating system and you video card details. You will find these details under "System" and "System Info".
Does this issue happen on all designs or just large ones?

You can look in the Task Manager | Performance tab to see the "Memory" usage and "GPU" utilisation when IRRICAD is running to see if the issue is related to the graphics card or the RAM. The "Video Processing" and "Shared GPU" graphs would be the ones to watch for the GPU - does the usage increase as IRRICAD slows down?
If the graphics card appears to be the cause however the specifications indicate there shouldn't be an issue then try updating the driver.

Dear Jo.

I was searching for a similar topic because I'm experiencing a very similar problem. I have a very new and fast PC (AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD). Irricad starts very fast but when I’m working within it with commands like changing a simple text object it could take even 10 sec to open the edit dialog box. I’m using Irricad 18.06 by now. When I tested CPU an memory usage during this slow commands execution I’ve got a maximum of 8,4 % of Irricad CPU usage and a maximum of 43 MB of memory usage having 63% of total memory usage. . I’ll be thankful for finding out the solution for this ‘cause it is a little bit uncomfortable to have this time gaps during the design process.

Thanks.

Regards.

Upgrading to Version 19 should show some improvement in the refresh rate.
First ensure that your dongle has been upgraded to Version 19 before downloading the update.

If you still find the screen refreshing slow then look at what is on the screen and the type of design:-
- did you import heavily detailed CAD files with many fills and hatches?
- is this a very large sprayline design displaying all sprinklers and wetted raddii?
Turning of layers should help with the redraw.

If there does not appear to be much improvement you can downgrade the 'session logging' that IRRICAD uses. This is a process that records the tasks so that in case of a crash we can follow your process and perhaps find the issue more quickly. The default session log level is set to '2'. You can try setting it to '1' and see if this helps.

To do this:-
1. First close IRRICAD.
2. Run Regedit - the easiest way is to enter Regedit into the "Search" field.
3. In the registry open HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | AEI Software | Irricad | AppSettings.
4. In the right-hand pane, double-click on the symbol next to "SessionLogLevel" and set the value data to 1.
5. Click OK on the dialog and close the registry.
Does this help the speed in Version 19?
If not, please set the "SessionLogLevel" value data back to 2.

Thank you Jo.

I'll try this suggestion. The problems seems to be associated to several hours of work. I´ll let you know what happens.

Thanks again.
