Contour line feature

Post by John316 »

I would like to suggest a feature that converts a selected entity to a contour line.

For example. I currently have a .dxf file that did not pull in any elevation data. All of the contours are in place, except they are all lines segments. It would be nice if we could select a line, select the contour button, and it converts it to a contour line. It could be just like creating a spray block entity out of a regular square box. Similar message, that kind of thing.

So when you want to make a line segment a contour, you would simply select the segment, then select the contour button. That is when it would ask you if you really wanted to change that to a contour line, etc.

That would help me out a lot.

Thanks.

Hi John,

Yes IRRICAD can convert selected geometric items into contours or spot heights. Select the line or point (and if it is not a polyline, then any individual single lines 'connected' to this will also be converted) and then select Tools|Convert to Elevations.
Note if you have many lines quite close together which do not have the same elevation (i.e. not part of the same contour) zoom in before converting.

John,

In addition to what Jo said, importing elevation data from DXF files is a separate process to importing the graphical content.
Did you use File|Import Contours... on the DXF file? It should work!

Jo,

Thanks for the reply. My mistake. I was relying on my contour button. Thanks for the reminder about the extra tools in the drop down.

Dan,

Yes, I am most diffidently using the import contours feature. Like I mentioned in my email, I can send you the files, so you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks,

John
