Improper Argument

Post by Jon Hayter »

Yesterday I got a message window that said: "Encountered an improper argument" and there was no means of acknowledging or escaping. I managed to clear the window by moving the cursor to the task bar, and by means of a separate monitor get the cursor to the upper right corner of the screen without entering the work area of the irricad window, and then clicking on the red X which allowed me to save the file before it was closed.
This happened when attempting to move a valve that had unintentionally got connected to pipes at 2 different depths, because it was located at a depth of -15 and very near another pipe at 36 depth.

Jon, we are not sure what could cause the "Encountered Improper Argument" message - this is not something we have come across before.
It cannot be caused by having different depths on the pipes either side of the valve as this is a relatively common situation.
After re-starting IRRICAD do you still have the same error occurring?
If File|Repair does not help please send us the design.

Good afternoon.

I had the same problem and even giving Repair I could not exit the file.

I ask the help of you to complete this process, because I can not leave the Irricad to start another file, unless I go to the device manager to close it improperly.

I thank you.

Dear Giancarlo,

What were you doing when the "Improper Argument" message appeared? We need to know what might cause this.
As I mentioned previously we have not come across this before. Please send us the design with the steps of how to make the message occur.

You can also check the backup is present before exiting IRRICAD if you have not saved the design recently. This is commonly located in C:\Program Files\AEI Software\Irricad Pro 10\backup or the IRRICAD folder where IRRICAD is currently installed.

Are you running Version 12?

Good afternoon.

The version I have now is Irricad 12:12, updated.

I can not close the program in the conventional way. I'm working with the program throughout the day and after work I turn off my computer, so turning off the Irricad.

At closing time the progam seems that it is locked, I'm not sure.

I can not close the Irricad, it worries me. In all, the program is functioning normally.

If the improper argument is persisting between IRRICAD sessions then it must be either:-
- A particular design that sets IRRICAD in this state
- A CADD setting file has become corrupt
- A registry setting issue

1) If it goes away in a clean blank design but comes back after loading a particular design (and then "sticks") then obviously it is something in that design. Please send the design to Support@IRRICAD.com.

2) It may one of the CADD settings files. With IRRICAD closed browse to the Irricad folder (commonly located in C:\Program Files\AEI Software\Irricad Pro xx, where xx is the version number).
Rename the winicad.sty to winicadold.sty.
Restart IRRICAD. Did this help?

If not, close IRRICAD and browse to the Irricad folder. Rename the SysSett.vcenv file to SysSettOld.vcenv
Restart IRRICAD. Did this help?

If not, close IRRICAD and browse to the Irricad folder. Rename the DEFAULT.vcd file to DEFAULTold.vcd
Restart IRRICAD. Did this help?

If not, close IRRICAD and browse to the Irricad\config folder (commonly located in C:\Program Files\AEI Software\Irricad Pro xx). Rename the Winicad.ini file to Winicadold.
Restart IRRICAD. Did this help?

If there has been no change you can go back to original files by removing the new ones and renaming the original files back to original names.

3) A setting in the Registry. You can save the registry settings and then delete it and then see if this helps the situation.
a) Close IRRICAD
b) Type RegEdit in the Start | search program and files field
c) Open "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
d) Open "Software"
e) Right-click on "Irricad" and select "Rename". Rename to "IrricadOld"
f) Close the registry.
h) Run IRRICAD.

Does the situation still persist?

The problem persists.

Come to uninstall and reinstall the program to see if the problem will be solved.

Anyway I appreciate the help.
